Distinguished Faculty Award (2023): John Hendrix

The Distinguished Faculty Award recognizes outstanding commitment to the intellectual and personal development of students. This award is given annually by the Washington University Alumni Association. About the recipient: Kenneth E. Hudson Professor of Art Chair, Master of Fine Arts in Illustration & Visual Culture program Sam Fox School Of Design & Visual Arts Hendrix is a best-selling author and illustrator who is passionate about using illustration to access new ideas, explore history, and communicate compelling stories. As the founding chair of Washington University’s illustration and visual culture program, he has expanded how drawing is taught at the Sam Fox School of Design & Visual Arts. Hendrix has written multiple award-winning children’s books, including The Faithful Spy: Dietrich Bonhoeffer and the Plot to Kill Hitler, which earned a 2018 Gold Medal from the Society of Illustrators and was named a Best Book of 2018 by NPR. His illustrations have appeared in numerous, widely circulated publications, including Newsweek, The New Yorker, and National Geographic. Prior to joining WashU, he was the assistant art director of the op-ed page of The New York Times and a faculty member at Parsons School of Design. Intersection

Filmed by herself and coworkers Mikey Ewertz and Adam Buccheit, Zoë edited the Music at the Intersection videos to be posted by the end of the first day at the festival. Though igh stakes and time sensitive, this immediately became one of Zoë's favorite edits.

Since it's debut, Zoë has edited Olin's Big Idea Bounce hosted by Poets&Quants as well as operating cameras during filming. She enjoys the chance to have fun with graphics and broadcast content.

Meet the Needhams

Meet the Needhams follows two children who have since graduated from Central Institute for the Deaf in St. Louis. Zoë edited this video in close collaboration with MMM Executive Producer Rachel Lee and CID Director Kim Readmond for CID's Annual Fundraiser, Out Loud.

Washington University's Founder's Day Awards

For three consecutive years, Zoë has been the sole editor for this expansive annual awards ceremony. Various distinguished alumni, faculty, and donors are honored in their own videos, each with at least one supporting interview from a colleague.
